Are You Building A House of Cards?

Entrepreneurs are weird.

If entrepreneurs built a house the way they build their businesses, they would …

  1. See a course on “How To Build A Door”, and they’d say “Hey! I need a door! I’d better take that course NOW!” And then they’d have a door. Then …
  2. They’d see “How To Install A Window”, get excited “OMG”, and start installing a window. Awesome!
  3. Of course, “How To Plant Flowers” and “How To Install Drywall” would be next. Yum, yum, yum!
  4. Next thing you know they have … something. Not sure what … but something.

The truth is, if entrepreneurs built a house they way they built their businesses, they would end up with a rickety shack and a house of cards.

Is that really the way you’d build a house?

Probably not!

The truth is … the REAL way you’d build a house is to start at the beginning, with the BIG PICTURE.

You’d start with THE ARCHITECT!

Before you build anything, you need to DESIGN THE HOUSE!

How big do you want the house to be? How many people do you want it to take care of? How many rooms? How luxurious or simple do you want it? What does the house need to do for the people in it, so they love it and are well taken care of?

There are many questions to be answered, but the one thing you need is to design the house before a single nail is hammered in, so that you know that the end result will be a SOLID HOUSE that SUPPORTS ALL OF YOUR WANTS AND NEEDS. You need to know what the vision is and how to get there.

So, what does that have to do with your business?

It’s the same idea.

We all get caught up in the bright shiny object courses that teach us the pieces we need to build our businesses (and we DO need those courses). But …

Too many coaches and transformational entrepreneurs take a random approach to building their business.

As a result, their business becomes a house of cards.

How do we solve this?

We solve this by ARCHITECTING YOUR BUSINESS from the beginning, so that you know the end result will support your wants, needs, and dreams when it’s done.

You don’t have to know all the details and answers to start, but you should have a generalized idea of what your business will look like when it’s done, so that you can make sure it becomes a solid business that gives you the freedom you crave.

Some basic questions to start …

  1. Do you ultimately just want a side gig, a full-time income for you, or a big enough business to support a small team?
  2. Do you love working with people one on one, or do you love to teach groups?
  3. How many people do you want to serve? Just a handful of high-end clients, or 100’s in a group program, or even 1,000’s through products?
  4. How will you attract your clients? Speaking, Facebook advertising, or word of mouth? Does that match the number and quality of clients you are seeking?

These barely get us started, but unless you’ve given some thought ahead of time to where you want to end up, you can waste a lot of time and energy going down the wrong road and end up with a mess of a business that is a house of cards.

By DESIGNING YOUR BUSINESS “right” from the start, you will build a solid business that gives you the freedom you crave and has the impact you want.

Have you designed a solid business or a house of cards?
